For any conservation intervention to be effective, all the stakeholders from the local communities who depend on and impact the wildlife and natural resources, to the implementing and enforcing agencies of the Government, need to be involved in the process. To direct the development quest in high altitude areas towards a sustainable future, the role of conservation education is crucial. And to make education worthwhile and effective, a strategy to address the existing threats/issues and relevant target groups is needed. Such a strategy needs to be focused, structured, thematic and participatory. The present strategy document has been prepared with this background and need. It is a guiding document that intends to generate widespread awareness and to bring about a positive change in the status of Himalayan wildlife and natural resources.
