Before restoration, this site was covered by a dense carpet of weeds including Lantana camara, Polygonum chinense, Chromolaena odorata, and Mikania micrantha. There was no virtually no tree canopy cover, which provided an open light environment that allowed the proliferation and persistence of weeds.
After restoration planting in 2003 and regular upkeep over the next two years, the site recovered dramatically. The light conditions enabled rapid growth of some planted seedlings; today, some species such as Bischofia javanica and Canarium strictum have grown into trees nearly 20 feet tall. In a minor setback within a portion of the site, people cut some pole-sized saplings creating some openings.
