Computational Data Engineer: State of India's Birds

We seek someone who has excellent analytical and software coding skills, primarily in R and in addition in any other language used in data science and statistics or cloud computing. Interest in birds or wildlife/nature is desirable but not essential. Note, this is a programming and data science position, with no field research or scientific writing involved. 

Specific responsibilities include to:

- Implement and productionize the algorithms developed for SoIB large scale data analysis.

- Deploy large computation software on on-prem as well as cloud systems.

- Maintain the SoIB codebase and improve/optimize performance. 

- Create automated integration and test scripts to handle migrations, bug fixes, and change requests. 

- Create technical documentation for maintenance of the software. 

- Create software tooling to facilitate easy conduct of SoIB activities including the necessary data crunching and visualisations. 

- Provide inputs on feasibility and scalability of algorithms and statistics and do quick prototyping.

Eligibility 

The successful candidate will have:

  • A graduate degree with demonstrable experience in programming and software development.

  • Experience and expertise in curating and analysing large datasets

  • At least some of the additional skill sets like statistical modelling, cloud computing, parallel processing, optimizations, data pipelines, automated testing, CICD, FOSS, etc.

  • Familiarity with software integration, version management, and Github.

Other

The position is based in Bangalore, with the possibility of working remotely part of the time. Remuneration is between Rs 50,000 and Rs 75,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
