Where the Forest Teaches

In 2023, NCF and Canopy Collective & Green Hub in collaboration with the Pakke Tiger Reserve Management came together to organize Decoding Nature Education (DNE). The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Pranav Trivedi and Ms. Sangeetha Trivedi, bringing together 32 nature educators from across Northeast India. It explored the purpose and practice of nature education and encouraged participants to develop a shared understanding and collaborative approach.

Building on the conversations and learnings from DNE, Nature Education Activity Development (NEAD) was organized in 2024. The workshop brought together 26 participants across four states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland and West Bengal—including 13 participants from the 2023 DNE workshop.

During NEAD, participants translated their learnings into innovative, thematic and impactful nature education activities designed for diverse audiences and rooted in the unique cultural contexts of Northeast India.

The collective process culminated in “Where the Forest Teaches”—a nature education manual that brings together a range of activities inspired by the forests, wildlife and landscapes of Northeast India. The manual reflects a shared effort to make nature education more meaningful, contextual and engaging for learners across the region.
