Oceans and Coasts
Project Assistant, Know Your Fish
About the Know Your Fish Initiative
Know Your Fish (KYF) is a voluntary initiative that promotes an ocean-friendly lifestyle. We aim to encourage and empower consumers to make responsible seafood choices, based on decades of marine research.
Addressing overfishing requires action on multiple fronts. In this collective effort, initiatives like KYF play a unique role by building awareness and creating a “human constituency” for marine ecosystems. While such initiatives can influence demand, they are not substitutes for direct interventions such as fisheries policy reforms, regulatory measures, technological innovation, and addressing broader societal issues like social equity.
