Vijay Karthick

Research Scholar, Western Ghats

My interest for wildlife and wild places grew as I spent my childhood in the Thadagam Valley in Coimbatore watching (and occasionally catching) birds, dragonflies, and beetles. My interest for wildlife conservation began as I witnessed the same landscape succumbing to the increasing pressure for our shrinking natural resources, taking away wildlife where co-existence once existed. I finished my Master’s in Wildlife Conservation Action from the Bharati Vidyapeeth Institute of Environment Education and Research, Pune. For my Master’s dissertation, I looked at how rainforest fragmentation affected anuran diversity by sampling different sized forest fragments in the Valparai Plateau. My broad interests are amphibian ecology, macroecology and conservation action pertaining to amphibians. Currently I’m working in the Western Ghats programme in Kadamane. I love sitting by the stream when I’m in a forest and enjoy watching indie movies while at home with a cup of kattan chai.
