I was not a nature person to begin with, thanks to my urban upbringing and lack of a nature-focused education. However, I began to appreciate the beauty of nature and recognize its importance during my post graduation. I studied heritage conservation and management, focusing on both nature and culture. As a result, I gained a holistic understanding of conservation. Because I also studied social work for my undergraduate degree, I could draw connections between nature, culture, and communities.
Then, I had a variety of internships that helped me explore various fields, including research on people's perspectives on the arts, implementation of the World Heritage Convention through statutory processes, and conserving biodiversity and traditional knowledge through the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. When I reflect on my work, I find that it has often revolved around education and outreach. Taking this further, I hope to connect people with nature through my position at Early Bird. Besides professional interests, I enjoy reading, writing, learning new languages, and making art and crafts.
