Rumaan Malhotra

Research Associate, High Altitudes

Rumaan's research background is in determining the spatial drivers of species distributions, especially in the context of changing landscapes. In his dissertation work, he examined how domestic dogs and fragmentation impact the space and time use of carnivores in southern Chile. He is particularly interested in the growing field of movement ecology, and the opportunities it presents for examining how various threats (such as disease and invasive antagonists) to native species interact. He will be pursuing these themes in a movement ecology study of free-ranging dogs in Spiti valley over the next year. Outside of research, Rumaan spends most of his time hiking around with a camera in hand in search of birds and snakes (and the occasional plant).
