Project Manager, High Altitudes

MSc Wildlife Biology & Conservation, National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore; PhD: Leibniz Institute for Zoo & Wildlife Research, Germany

I'm a bat researcher with experience of working in different landscapes in India, predominantly the Himalayas of Uttarakhand, and Andaman Islands. My team and I are the only lowland members of the High Altitude Program! At NCF, I lead bat conservation projects with our partner organisation, Bat Conservation International. Some of the projects that we have initiated include understanding the effects of urbanisation and wind energy on bats, exploring conflict between bats and archaeological site managers, and improving the knowledge on the ecology of rare, endangered bat species. Additionally, we are preparing a conservation plan for Indian bats - the first such effort since 2002! Please write to me at rohitchakravarty@ncf-india.org if you would like to pitch research and conservation projects on bats.
