I come from an IT background but in 2020 during Covid it all started off with viewing the brilliant colours of the Coppersmith Barbet on a barren tree outside my balcony - this was my spark moment. Around the same time, I witnessed the visitor Shaheen Falcon outside my window and since then, there was no looking back.
I became an active ebird-er, contributed to citizen science via various bird censuses, documented nests of different bird species and became a part of a raptor watch group - documenting all raptors and Peregrine Falcons in successive seasons. I also do regular patch birding, ebird data analysis and am interested in stats, population trends, migration and how tech can assist conservation efforts.
Eventually I snowballed and here I am as SoIB (State of India's Birds) Project Manager (secretariat hosted at NCF, Bengaluru).
Here, I find my software tech and managerial skills synergize well with my passion. I will oversee the annual trend releases of SoIB with latest updates and help accelerate the much needed outreach and other events. I will also manage outreach to the general public and coordinate outputs for conservationists. I will also track releases of MYNA, an easy and effective to use tool for summaries of bird information and data by geographical areas.
