I am a master's graduate from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Tirupati. I am an evolutionary ecologist at the core, with a passion for integrative research. I aim to translate core ecological concepts into wildlife conservation and management. For my master's thesis, I worked on a project with Dr. VV Robin and Dr. Vijay Ramesh, connecting avian diversification and migration in the Western Ghats. In the past, I have worked on various aspects of ecology (behavior of social spiders to bird biogeography) and have experienced fieldwork in some diverse locations (Aravallis, Eastern Ghats, and Western Ghats).
At the Eastern Himalaya Program, I will be helping to develop the Conservation Action Plan for five hornbill species in Arunachal Pradesh by generating species occurrence and density maps through a multidimensional approach. We plan to develop and use a pipeline to integrate data from various citizen science sources (like eBird, iNat), the Hornbill watch initiative, historical field surveys, and potential targeted surveys to arrive at the most robust distribution maps. I am driven towards this project because of the beauty of the Eastern Himalaya and the opportunity of testing a novel ecological data collection method.
When not working in the lab or field, you can find me climbing trees, doing parkour, and philosophizing. I enjoy reading light-hearted fiction and books on field expeditions. Exploring various cultures is a top hobby of mine, and language and food are my favorite tools to do so. I am also learning to play the flute. I am a big herpetophile, too.
