Ramit Singal

Programme Coordinator, Education and Public Engagement

I have a keen interest in the natural history of India - particularly in birds, frogs and snakes. This interest led me to break away from my engineering background to be able to pursue a path which allows me to work with the subjects I find most fascinating.

In the process, I have been lucky to be presented with opportunities to author the 1st and 2nd editions of ‘A Birder’s Handbook to Manipal’ and co-author ‘Mandookavani: An Acoustic Guide to the Frogs and Toads of the Western Ghats’. I received the Carl Zeiss Conservation Award in 2015 for my work involving conservation education in Manipal and surrounding landscapes.

I believe strongly in the power and potential of citizen engagement in scientific and conservation endeavours. Through NCF, I hope to help in engaging as many people as possible in understanding and caring for our environment and its inhabitants. Apart from various creatures and their natural habitats, I am also fond of long walks, surreal humour and ice cream.
