Somesh Menon

Project Associate, Oceans and Coasts

M.A Development

Since joining the Oceans and Coasts Programme in 2018, I have been engaged in executing a holistic community outreach process focused on preserving local ecosystems and communicating climate change in the Lakshadweep Islands. Through various projects, such as the Kadal Kathakal awareness exhibitions and the Melem Keezhem comic panels campaign, I engage directly with island inhabitants to foster knowledge and pride about local biodiversity, and co-create potential pathways to build resilience to climate change threats. My previous role in the social sector saw me work on community-level interventions in Delhi NCR, Jaipur and Bhopal with vulnerable youth affected by Gender Based Violence (GBV). My academic background, which includes a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a Master’s degree in Development, has afforded me the opportunity to travel substantially and document stories from diverse geographies of India.
