Western Ghats Programme
We are looking for young and motivated candidate with an interest in ecological restoration and plants for joining our rainforest restoration project in the Anamalai hills, Western Ghats.
Research Responsibilities:
Assist with ongoing long-term research on vegetation recovery and monitoring in restoration sites, forest dynamics, and tree phenology.
Take the lead in data analysis, preparation of reports, maps, manuscript and presentations.
Essential qualifications:
Master’s degree, preferably in a related field such as Forestry, Botany, Zoology, Ecology, Life Sciences, or Wildlife Science (or, if holding a different degree, then a demonstrable keen interest in plants, conservation, and motivation for field work).
Proficiency in basic word processing and other computer applications such as Excel, Power point, GIS mapping, and use of R software and packages.
Ability to manage a large ecological dataset and carry out statistical analysis for reports and manuscripts, write grant proposals and donation requests to raise funding.
Proficiency in English and good communication skills, speak Tamil, and be able to work in a team.
Commitment and compensation:
An initial commitment for one year (extendable) is expected and the salary (Rs. 25,000 – 45,000) will be based on experience.
Accommodation will be provided at a field station (shared with other students and researchers) and local travel costs connected to fieldwork would be covered.
Food costs will need to be shared by the candidate along with others at the field station.
