Research Coordinator, Western Ghats

M.Sc. in Applied Ecology (Erasmus Mundus)

I have always enjoyed being outdoors and over the years I have had the opportunity to observe nature more closely, appreciating it a lot more. For my bachelor thesis, I worked on a microhabitat study of golden frogs (Hylarana Aurantiaca) at Agumbe Rainforest Research Station. After graduating, I moved onto working with Olive Ridley turtles on a long-term conservation project with CES in Bangalore for a year and a half. During my internship at CES, I had the chance to explore quite a bit of the Western Ghats, Konkan coast and beaches of Orissa. In 2017, I graduated with a masters in Applied Ecology. The highlight of my masters was definitely the experience of surreal field sites like the Andes, Amazon and Galapagos Island. The Amazon truly made me fall in love with trees. For my master thesis, I worked on neotropical bats of Brazilia National Park in Brazil, where we were testing the reliability of automated software to identify species with their echolocation calls. I have wanted to work with large mammals for as long as I can remember and now I'm working with the Western Ghats team. I have a keen interest in working on conservation projects involving local communities and intend to pursue this gradually. Email: amrita@ncf-india.org
