Project Assistant (Social Media), Know Your Fish

By  Mayuresh Gangal June 09 2025, 4:02 AM

About Know Your Fish

Know Your Fish (KYF) is a voluntary initiative that works towards an ocean-friendly lifestyle. We encourage and empower consumers to eat seafood responsibly by providing informed choices that are based on a compilation of decades of marine research.

Addressing the issue of overfishing requires action from multiple fronts. In this collective effort, initiatives like KYF have a unique place. Such initiatives can sensitise people, build a “human constituency” for marine ecosystems and if a majority of seafood consumers follow such an initiative, they can have an impact on the overall demand. However, initiatives like KYF are not silver bullets or substitutes for direct action like changing fisheries policy, devising regulations, modifying technology and addressing societal issues (like social equity).
